History

HISTORY

Knecht’s was officially incorporated in 1976 by brothers Jack and Gerald Knecht in San Luis Obispo, where the company is still headquartered. The pair wanted to build a company that went above-and-beyond basic HVAC and plumbing projects – they wanted to operate a business that could tackle the most complex install and repair projects. Instead of offering off-the-shelf solutions, they built their own fabrication shop so that they could personally design and build their clients’ projects. They also hired an experienced HVAC and plumbing team – many of the original employees are still with the company today.

Avila Landing

A Re-Engineered Solution for a Mixed-Use Development Project

Project Description

Knecht’s was hired to design and install the plumbing and HVAC system for Avila Landing, a mixed-use residential/commercial development, with a total square foot space of 27,000 square feet.

Challenge

The original engineering plans for the project weren’t feasible for the space. When Knecht’s was hired for the project, our staff engineers re-drew the project and led the effort through the permitting process. We designed and built tailored plumbing and HVAC systems that worked specifically for the space.

Outcome

Knecht’s completed the re-engineered Avila Landing project on-time and on-budget. The client was extremely pleased with the finished result.

Sports Warehouse

A Custom-Designed and Installed Geo-Thermal System

Project Description

Sports Warehouse wanted to build a 42,000 square foot operation with a geo-thermal heating/cooling system. Knecht’s was hired to design and install the system.

Challenge

A geo-thermal system is not a standard heating/cooling system – it requires careful design and construction so that the system can tap 400 feet into the earth and take advantage of the ground’s cooler temperatures.

For the Sports Warehouse project, Knecht’s designed a geo-thermal system that had 49, 400-foot deep geo-thermal vertical boards with 20 geo-thermal heat pumps. The loop solution allows the large warehouse space to be completely temperature-regulated by relying on the earth’s 58-degree stable temperature. The system is controlled by a direct-digital energy management system that Knecht’s designed and installed.

Outcome

The Sports Warehouse eco-heating geo-thermal system was successfully engineered and installed by the Knecht’s team – in fact, the owner was so pleased with the system, that he hired Knecht’s to design and install a custom system for his home.

Halter Ranch

Providing a state-of-the-art HVAC, plumbing, and refrigeration system for a premier winery

Project Description

Knecht’s was hired to take over the design and installation of the HVAC, plumbing, and refrigeration for a high-end winery’s tank-cooling and process plant facilities.

Challenge

The 34,000 square foot Grade A facility required the highest-level product and customization to match the winery’s exacting standards. The terrain and building site required extensive architectural challenges for the Knecht’s team’s engineers to design a system that would offer maximum efficiency. In addition to the HVAC and plumbing systems, the Knecht’s team designed and installed a direct-digital energy management system.

Outcome

The Knecht’s team designed and installed a full-custom system that fulfilled the project’s requirements. Knecht’s is currently contracted for the winery’s cave project construction.

Niner Wine Estates

A high-end refrigeration, HVAC, and plumbing system for a Class A winery

Project Description

Niner Wine Estates, a winery housed in a LEED-silver certified facility, contracted Knecht’s to design, build, and install a custom refrigeration, HVAC, and plumbing system for the state-of-the-art winery’s facilities in Paso Robles.

Challenge

The custom Niner Wine Estates facility, a multi-level 50,000 square foot project, required a highly specialized solution – from the refrigeration to the carefully engineered HVAC system – to meet the winery’s silver-LEED certification status.

Outcome

The Knecht’s team met the challenge and designed a system to meet the winery’s exacting standards. The project was completed on-time and on-budget.
